Kadcyla 160mg Injection contains trastuzumab emtansine, an antibody-drug conjugate belonging to the targeted anticancer drug class. Oncologists prescribe it for HER2 positive metastatic breast cancer in patients previously treated with trastuzumab and taxane based chemotherapy.

Kadcyla 160mg Injection also treats early stage HER2 positive breast cancer in patients with residual invasive disease after neoadjuvant taxane and trastuzumab based treatment. Dosing is weight based, calculated at 3.6 mg per kilogram, and given once every three weeks.

How Does Kadcyla 160mg Injection Work?

Kadcyla 160mg Injection combines trastuzumab, a monoclonal antibody that targets the HER2 receptor, with DM1, a potent microtubule inhibitor, joined by a stable chemical linker. Trastuzumab guides the conjugate directly to HER2 positive cancer cells.

Once bound to HER2, the conjugate is drawn inside the cancer cell, where it releases DM1 to disrupt microtubule function and block cell division. This targeted delivery concentrates the chemotherapy effect on cancer cells while limiting exposure to healthy tissue.
