Kytril 1mg Tablets Ingredients and Usage
Kytril 1mg Tablets contain granisetron, a selective 5-HT3 receptor antagonist. This antiemetic drug class blocks the serotonin signals that trigger nausea and vomiting. Doctors prescribe Kytril to prevent and treat acute nausea and vomiting caused by chemotherapy and radiotherapy.
Kytril also prevents the delayed nausea and vomiting that can follow cancer treatment for several days. Patients usually take 1mg twice a day or 2mg once a day for up to one week after therapy. The first Kytril dose is taken within one hour before chemotherapy or radiotherapy begins.
How Does Kytril 1mg Tablets Work?
Kytril works by blocking 5-HT3 receptors, the serotonin receptors found on nerve endings in the gut and brain. Chemotherapy and radiation make the body release serotonin, which activates these receptors and triggers vomiting. By blocking them, Kytril interrupts the signal before it starts.
Granisetron acts on the vagus nerve in the digestive tract and on the chemoreceptor trigger zone in the brain. These two sites drive the vomiting reflex during cancer treatment. Kytril calms both pathways, which stops nausea and vomiting from developing.
Kytril 1mg Tablets Side Effects

Warnings
Kytril can prolong the QT interval, a change in heart rhythm, so doctors use caution in patients with heart rhythm disorders.
Kytril raises QT risk further when combined with other drugs that prolong the QT interval or affect heart rhythm.
Avoid Kytril if you are allergic to granisetron or to similar antiemetics such as ondansetron, dolasetron, or palonosetron.
Tell your doctor about low potassium or magnesium levels, as these electrolyte imbalances increase the risk of rhythm problems.
Combining Kytril with serotonergic medicines can rarely cause serotonin syndrome, a dangerous build up of serotonin.
Use Kytril during pregnancy only when prescribed, and discuss breastfeeding with your doctor before taking it.
Kytril 1mg Tablets Storage Conditions
Store Kytril tablets at room temperature below 30°C, away from moisture, heat, and direct light. Keep the tablets in their original blister pack until use to protect them from humidity. Store Kytril out of the reach of children, and do not use any tablet past its printed expiry date.
