Zytux Ingredients and Usage
Zytux contains Rituximab, a monoclonal antibody that targets CD20, a protein on the surface of B lymphocytes. B lymphocytes are white blood cells that turn cancerous in several lymphomas and drive many autoimmune diseases. Haematologists prescribe Zytux for non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) and chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL).
Zytux also treats rheumatoid arthritis, granulomatosis with polyangiitis, and microscopic polyangiitis, often alongside other medicines. A specialist gives Zytux as a slow intravenous infusion, with the dose set by body surface area or indication. Patients receive premedication beforehand to lower the risk of infusion reactions.
How Does Zytux Work?
Zytux works by binding CD20 on B lymphocytes, then flagging these cells for destruction by the immune system. Rituximab recruits complement proteins and immune cells that kill the tagged B cells, and it also triggers apoptosis. This clears malignant or overactive B cells from the blood, marrow, and lymph nodes.
Zytux lowers the abnormal B cell population that fuels lymphoma, leukemia, and antibody driven autoimmune disease. Healthy B cells recover over several months, as new cells form from CD20 negative stem cells. This targeted action spares many other immune cells, unlike broad chemotherapy.
Zytux Side Effects
Zytux most often causes infusion reactions and raises infection risk by lowering B cells and other blood counts. Report fever, chills, breathlessness, or any sign of infection to your care team straight away.

Low white cells (neutropenia)
Low platelets (thrombocytopenia)
Anemia
Increased risk of infections
Fatigue and general weakness

Warnings
Zytux can cause severe and sometimes fatal infusion reactions, usually within 24 hours of the first dose. Trained staff monitor patients closely during and after each infusion.
Hepatitis B virus can reactivate during or after Zytux therapy and may cause fatal liver failure. Doctors screen for hepatitis B before starting treatment.
Progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy (PML), a rare and often fatal brain infection, has occurred. Report new weakness, confusion, or vision changes at once.
Severe skin reactions, including Stevens-Johnson syndrome, have been reported and need emergency care.
Tumor lysis syndrome can occur as cancer cells break down quickly, so doctors monitor kidney function and electrolytes.
Zytux may harm an unborn baby. Women should use effective contraception during treatment and for twelve months after the last dose.
Avoid live vaccines during Zytux therapy, and tell your doctor about any heart disease or active infection before starting.
Zytux Storage Conditions
Store Zytux 500mg vials in a refrigerator between 2°C and 8°C in the original carton to protect them from light. Do not freeze or shake the vial, since this damages the Rituximab antibody and reduces its effectiveness. Keep the vial out of reach of children, and let a trained professional dilute and infuse the medicine.
