Zoladex 3.6mg Injection Ingredients and Usage

Zoladex 3.6mg Injection contains goserelin, a synthetic GnRH agonist delivered as a biodegradable implant. A GnRH agonist is a hormonal drug that lowers sex hormones such as testosterone and oestrogen. Doctors prescribe Zoladex for hormone sensitive cancers and gynaecological conditions.

Zoladex 3.6mg Injection treats advanced prostate cancer in men, often alongside flutamide and radiotherapy. In women it treats advanced breast cancer, endometriosis, and uterine fibroids before surgery. Zoladex also thins the womb lining before endometrial ablation.

How Does Zoladex 3.6mg Injection Work?

Zoladex 3.6mg Injection binds the GnRH receptor in the pituitary gland and first stimulates hormone release. This causes a brief early rise in luteinising hormone, follicle stimulating hormone, and sex hormones. Continuous exposure then desensitises the receptor and shuts down this signal.

The pituitary stops driving the testes or ovaries, so testosterone or oestrogen falls sharply. In men, testosterone drops to castrate levels within 2 to 4 weeks. Removing this hormonal fuel slows the growth of hormone sensitive tumours and shrinks fibroids.

Zoladex 3.6mg Injection Side Effects

Zoladex 3.6mg Injection causes side effects linked to lowered sex hormone levels. Hot flushes and reduced libido are the most frequent effects.

Warnings

• Zoladex can cause a tumour flare in the first few weeks as hormones briefly rise. In prostate cancer this risks spinal cord compression and urinary blockage, so doctors add an antiandrogen.

• Zoladex raises the risk of new or worsening depression, which may be severe. Doctors monitor mood closely, especially in patients with a history of depression.

• Zoladex can prolong the QT interval and cause irregular heart rhythm. Doctors weigh the risk in patients with heart failure or electrolyte abnormalities.

• Zoladex can cause severe skin reactions and anaphylaxis. It is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to GnRH agonists.

• Zoladex harms the unborn baby and is contraindicated in pregnancy, except for advanced breast cancer. Women must use effective nonhormonal contraception during treatment.

Zoladex 3.6mg Injection Storage Conditions

Store Zoladex 3.6mg Injection at room temperature and do not exceed 25°C. Keep the syringe in its sealed, light and moisture proof foil pouch with the desiccant until use. Keep Zoladex out of the reach of children, and let only a trained doctor or nurse administer the implant.
