Vinblas Ingredients and Usage

Vinblas 10mg Injection contains vinblastine sulfate, a vinca alkaloid derived from the periwinkle plant Catharanthus roseus. Oncologists use it to treat Hodgkin lymphoma, non Hodgkin lymphoma, and testicular cancer. Doctors also prescribe it for breast cancer, histiocytosis, and methotrexate resistant choriocarcinoma.

Vinca alkaloids belong to the antineoplastic drug class and target rapidly dividing cells. Vinblas is administered by intravenous injection only, usually as part of a combination chemotherapy regimen. A qualified oncology team must supervise every dose.

How Does Vinblas Work?

Vinblastine binds to tubulin, the protein subunit that forms microtubules inside dividing cells. This binding blocks microtubule formation in the mitotic spindle, the structure chromosomes need to separate during cell division.

Without a functioning spindle, cancer cells arrest at the metaphase stage of mitosis and cannot complete division. The arrested cells eventually undergo apoptosis, or programmed cell death, which shrinks the tumor over successive treatment cycles.

Vinblas commonly affects the bone marrow and digestive system because it targets fast dividing cells throughout the body. Report severe or persistent symptoms to your oncologist right away.

Warnings

• Vinblas is contraindicated in patients with significant granulocytopenia unless the low count results from the cancer itself

• Do not start treatment during an active bacterial infection; control the infection first

• Vinblas is fatal if given intrathecally; administer by intravenous route only

• Use with extreme caution in patients with impaired kidney function

• Avoid use during pregnancy, since vinblastine can cause fetal harm

• Breastfeeding mothers should not use this medicine

• Liver impairment can increase toxicity, since the biliary system clears much of the drug

• Avoid alcohol and driving while receiving treatment

Vinblas Storage Conditions

Store Vinblas 10mg Injection in a refrigerator between 2°C and 8°C, and never freeze the vial. Protect the injection from light and keep it in its original carton until use. Keep the vial out of reach of children, and dispose of used vials according to cytotoxic waste guidelines rather than household trash.
