Intaxel 150mg Ingredients and Usage

Intaxel 150mg Injection contains paclitaxel, a taxane chemotherapy drug that stops cancer cells from dividing. A taxane is a class of antineoplastic agent originally derived from the bark of the Pacific yew tree. Oncologists prescribe Intaxel 150mg Injection for advanced ovarian, breast, and non small cell lung cancers.

Intaxel 150mg Injection also treats AIDS related Kaposi sarcoma and forms part of many combination chemotherapy regimens. A trained healthcare professional gives the injection as a slow intravenous infusion under close clinical supervision. The medical team decides the dose and schedule based on the cancer type, body size, and patient response.

How Does Intaxel 150mg Work?

Intaxel 150mg Injection works by binding to microtubules, the tiny protein fibres that pull a dividing cell apart. The paclitaxel molecule locks onto the beta tubulin subunit and stabilises these microtubules so they cannot break down. Cells need to dismantle their microtubules to complete division, so this lock traps them.

Intaxel 150mg Injection therefore freezes the cancer cell during mitosis, the stage where one cell splits into two. The trapped cell cannot finish dividing and eventually dies through programmed cell death. This action hits fast dividing cancer cells hardest, making Intaxel 150mg Injection effective against aggressive tumours.

Intaxel 150mg Side Effects

Intaxel 150mg Injection commonly lowers blood cell counts and causes hair loss, since it targets fast dividing cells. Patients should report fever, unusual bruising, or numbness in the hands and feet to their oncology team promptly.

  • Bone marrow suppression, especially low white cell count (neutropenia), raising infection risk

  • Hair loss (alopecia), affecting most patients during treatment

  • Peripheral neuropathy, felt as numbness and tingling in the hands and feet

  • Joint pain and muscle aches (arthralgia and myalgia) a few days after each dose

  • Nausea, vomiting, and mouth sores (mucositis)

  • Fatigue, weakness, and anaemia

  • Hypersensitivity reactions such as flushing, rash, breathlessness, or low blood pressure

Warnings

  • Intaxel 150mg Injection can trigger severe hypersensitivity reactions, so the team gives premedication with steroids and antihistamines first.

  • Doctors must not give Intaxel 150mg Injection to patients with a baseline neutrophil count below 1,500 cells per cubic millimetre.

  • Patients with a prior severe reaction to paclitaxel or its castor oil solvent must avoid this drug.

  • Intaxel 150mg Injection can harm an unborn baby, so doctors avoid it during pregnancy and advise reliable contraception.

  • Combining Intaxel 150mg Injection with certain drugs that affect liver enzymes can change paclitaxel levels and raise toxicity.

  • The team monitors blood counts, nerve function, and heart rhythm throughout treatment with Intaxel 150mg Injection.

Intaxel 150mg Storage Conditions

Store Intaxel 150mg Injection below 25°C in its original carton to protect the vial from direct light. Keep the medicine dry and away from heat, and do not freeze the solution at any time. Store Intaxel 150mg Injection out of the reach of children and discard any diluted infusion according to hospital cytotoxic waste guidelines.
