Inocef Ingredients and Usage
Inocef 250mg contains Ceftriaxone, a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic with broad-spectrum antibacterial activity. This injectable medication treats various bacterial infections, including respiratory tract infections (pneumonia), urinary tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, bone and joint infections, blood infections (septicemia), meningitis, and sexually transmitted infections like gonorrhea. It is effective against multidrug-resistant bacteria and is also used to prevent infections before surgery.
How Does Inocef Work?
Inocef works by targeting penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) in bacterial cell membranes. Ceftriaxone binds to these proteins and blocks the formation of the bacterial cell wall’s peptidoglycan layer. Without a strong cell wall, bacteria cannot maintain their structure, leading to cell rupture and death. This bactericidal action is effective against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria.
Inocef Side Effects
Common side effects include pain at injection site, diarrhea, skin rash, and nausea. Serious side effects requiring immediate medical attention include severe allergic reactions (rash, swelling, difficulty breathing), persistent or bloody diarrhea, confusion or seizures, and unusual bleeding.
List of Warnings:
- Never mix with calcium-containing solutions—can cause fatal precipitates in newborns
- Inform your doctor if pregnant, breastfeeding, or have kidney/liver/gallbladder disease
- Complete the full treatment course even if symptoms improve
- Not effective against viral infections like colds or flu
- May cause severe allergic reactions in patients with penicillin or cephalosporin allergies
Inocef Storage Conditions
Store unopened vials at room temperature (20-25°C) in the original carton, protected from light and moisture. Once reconstituted with sterile water, use immediately or refrigerate at 2-8°C and use within 3-4 days. Do not use if the solution becomes cloudy or develops unusual discoloration. Keep out of reach of children and do not freeze.
