Ryzodeg FlexTouch Ingredients and Usage
Ryzodeg FlexTouch contains a fixed ratio blend of insulin degludec and insulin aspart, made by Novo Nordisk. Insulin degludec is an ultra long acting basal insulin, and insulin aspart is a rapid acting mealtime insulin. The 70/30 ratio covers both background needs and the glucose rise from food.
Doctors prescribe Ryzodeg FlexTouch for Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes, and international labels approve it from 2 years of age. Inject it under the skin of the abdomen, thigh, or upper arm, once or twice daily with a main meal. Rotate injection sites and take it with a meal containing carbohydrate.
How Does Ryzodeg FlexTouch Work?
Ryzodeg FlexTouch lowers blood sugar by binding insulin receptors on muscle and fat cells. This binding pulls glucose from the blood into cells and blocks glucose release from the liver. It also reduces fat and protein breakdown, which steadies overall metabolism.
The insulin aspart portion releases as monomers and starts acting within 10 to 20 minutes, peaking near 1 hour. The insulin degludec portion forms multihexamer depots under the skin and binds albumin, giving a steady effect beyond 42 hours. Together they deliver mealtime cover plus round the clock basal control.
Ryzodeg FlexTouch Side Effects
Ryzodeg FlexTouch most commonly causes hypoglycemia, meaning low blood sugar, which is the frequent effect of all insulins. Treat mild lows with fast carbohydrate and report frequent episodes to your doctor.
Hypoglycemia (shaking, sweating, confusion, hunger)
Injection site pain, redness, swelling, or itching
Lipodystrophy (skin lumps or pits from repeated injections in one spot)
Cutaneous amyloidosis at overused injection sites
Weight gain
Edema (fluid swelling), usually at treatment start
Allergic reactions, rarely severe
Warnings
Do not use Ryzodeg FlexTouch during a hypoglycemic episode or if you are allergic to insulin degludec or insulin aspart.
Ryzodeg FlexTouch does not treat diabetic ketoacidosis and is not suitable for it.
Skipping meals or heavy unplanned exercise can drop blood sugar too low.
Combining insulin with pioglitazone or rosiglitazone can raise the risk of heart failure.
Never inject it into a vein, muscle, or insulin pump, and never mix it with other insulins.
Never freeze the pen, do not use it if the solution is cloudy, and never share a pen or needle.
