Fansidar Syrup Ingredients and Usage

Fansidar Syrup is a combination of two active ingredients: Sulfadoxine (a sulfonamide) and Pyrimethamine. This liquid formulation is clinically utilized for the treatment of acute malaria caused by Plasmodium falciparum in patients where the strain is sensitive to this combination. It is also used for the intermittent preventive treatment (IPT) of malaria in specific clinical settings. How Does Fansidar Syrup Work?

Fansidar works by inhibiting two different enzymes involved in the biosynthesis of folic acid within the malaria parasite. Since the parasite requires folic acid for DNA and RNA synthesis, this double blockade effectively starves the parasite of essential nutrients, preventing its replication and leading to its death.
