Cis-Curon IV Injection contains cisatracurium besylate, a nondepolarizing neuromuscular blocking agent belonging to the benzylisoquinolinium drug class. Anesthetists use it as an adjunct to general anesthesia to facilitate tracheal intubation and to provide skeletal muscle relaxation during surgical procedures.
Cis-Curon IV Injection is also used to maintain muscle relaxation during mechanical ventilation in the intensive care unit, always alongside appropriate sedation. It carries an intermediate onset and duration of action and is not dependent on kidney or liver function for elimination.
How Does Cis-Curon IV Injection Work?
Cisatracurium blocks the action of acetylcholine at the neuromuscular junction, the site where nerve signals normally trigger muscle contraction. By occupying these receptors without activating them, it prevents the muscle from receiving the signal to contract.
This produces temporary paralysis of skeletal muscle, allowing controlled tracheal intubation and preventing patient movement during surgery or ventilation. The effect wears off as the drug breaks down through a temperature and pH dependent process that does not rely on the kidneys or liver.

Warnings
