Abriva Plus Ingredients and Usage
Abriva Plus contains two Direct-Acting Antiviral (DAA) agents:
- Sofosbuvir (400mg) – an inhibitor of the HCV NS5B RNA polymerase.
- Velpatasvir (100mg) – an inhibitor of the HCV NS5A protein.
This medicine is used to treat all major HCV genotypes (pan-genotypic) in adults with or without compensated cirrhosis.
For patients with decompensated cirrhosis (Child-Pugh B or C), Abriva Plus is typically given together with Ribavirin.
How Does Abriva Plus Work?
Abriva Plus targets two essential proteins used by the Hepatitis C virus to multiply:
- Sofosbuvir is converted in the body to its active form, which blocks
the NS5B RNA-dependent RNA polymerase. This stops the virus from producing new RNA,
halting replication. - Velpatasvir inhibits the NS5A protein, which is critical for viral
replication and virion assembly.
By blocking the virus at two different stages, Abriva Plus dramatically reduces viral load and significantly increases the likelihood of clearing the infection completely.
