MATCHING WITHOUT A 99

Assalamualeikum everyone!

I am writing things here on the alumni page that will hopefully serve useful and inspire others.

Lets start off with my scores. Step 1 – 95 (229), Step 2 – 91 (221), Step 2 CS (pass), Step 3 (not taken). Not the most amazing scores right? I absolutely agree.  But more importantly, did it affect me as far as the matching process goes?

Well, statistically speaking YES it did! I applied to a total of 81 programs in Internal Medicine and got 3 interview calls only. (University of Massachusetts, State University, New York (SUNY Upstate) and Christiana Care Health System).  But heres another important statistic, in fact the most important of all; I matched! Yes even without a double 99. I’ll go into the details of that later.

So, the process may be relatively less nerve wrecking for you guys compared to me.

This document has information on USMLEs, Electives, Research and the like, and how all of it can be accommodated during medical school. If you guys have any questions, you can message me by posting questions under this article; I will be happy to help you guys as much as I can.
