UK Visa / Sponsorship FAQs

I do not hold the right to work in the UK. Can I still apply for the Foundation Programme?

If you are a student or graduate of a non-UK medical school you must first submit an eligibility application, which will determine whether you are eligible to apply for the foundation programme. Refer to the “How to Apply” section of our website for details of the eligibility process: The Foundation Programme – How to apply

If you are considered to meet the eligibility criteria but do not hold valid right to work in the UK, you will still be able to complete an application form, and have it scored, along with those applicants who are fully eligible.

After fully eligible applicants with valid right to work in the UK are matched to foundation schools, applicants who do not hold the right to work in the UK, but who meet the rest of the eligibility criteria will be allocated to any remaining vacancies.

However, this would not be a guarantee of employment and you would still be required to obtain the right to work in the UK, this may involve your employing Trust agreeing to sponsor you.

For general queries regarding visa and right to work issues, we recommend that you refer to the UK Border Agency: http://www.bia.homeoffice.gov.uk/

The above explained answer is taken from foundation programme website, I see people are very confused about right to work issue and they should be as it is one of the most important part of your application process, I literally did withdraw my application as I was totally misguided by other people that if you do not have a working right you can not work in uk, But Thankfully I read this FAQ at website and after that I did not listen to anyone specially those who were only telling me the negative aspects. I mean if the most authentic website is saying that they will still consider you, I do not think there is any room left for the negative thoughts.

So when I was totally clueless of what a right to work actually means, after contacting thousands of seniors , visa agencies, home office, fedex, gerrys n wateve source I could use , I finally figured out that the right to work actually means that u have a valid visa which gives you a right to work in uk

Examples are : Spouse Visa, ILR (indefinite leave to remain), British national, Settlement visa and Tier 2 visa ( which I applied for)

And the visa which do not give you the right to work are : Visit visa ( which I had), plab business visa and any sort of tourist or attachment visa

Most of the people comes under the category which does not give you a right to work and the only visa which we cud have is the TIER 2  Visa

So I would like to give the details of this visa here

The Tier 2 (General) category is for foreign nationals who have a skilled job offer to fill a gap in the workforce that cannot be filled by a settled worker.

Before you apply under Tier 2 (General), you must have:

  • a sponsor; and
  • a valid certificate of sponsorship.

When you apply, you are awarded points based on your:

  • salary and allowances;
  • sponsorship;
  • English language skills; and
  • available maintenance (funds).

You can apply under the skilled worker category (Tier 2 General) now if you are:

  • applying for permission to enter the UK (known as ‘entry clearance’) under Tier 2 (General)

What is a certificate of sponsorship?

A certificate of sponsorship is not an actual certificate or paper document, but is a unique reference number, which holds information about the job and your personal details.

Your sponsor will give you your certificate of sponsorship reference number. They will also need to give you some of the information they used to assign the certificate for you to use the point-based calculator and apply, for example, the wage of the job.

About the Points

Now lets talk about the Most famous INTERIM LIMIT which is confusing everybody

In mid 2010, the ukba started an interim limit on tier 1 and tier 2 visas which means that only selected few thousands of migrants can come to uk under these 2 categories

NB : When I applied that limit was still in place but I still got the visa

The limit does not mean that you are the one who they will be rejecting or there is a permenant or temporary ban on pak doctors, the limit simply means that just to reduce the influx of people coming from all over the world as they need to do it because of a massive influx of people coming from different countries, this doesn’t only include doctors, it includes lots and lots of other fields and occupations as well so this is not FOR DOCTORS ONLY. And there is no truth that they will only take consultants or doctors on registrar levels etc, these days the only vacancies I see is at junior doctors level and they have got enough consultants and they do not need any consultants from Pakistan atleast. In my hospital there are so many locums coming everyday, we are literally understaffed and everyday we talk about it that why do they not get any one for this post, so there is nothing like they will not take doctors from Pakistan etc…

What will happen to my application if the limit is reached?

A migrant must have a valid certificate of sponsorship to make a Tier 2 application. If you have a valid certificate of sponsorship, you are inside the limit and your application will be assessed as normal.

The above information has been quoted from UKBA official website

Now lets talk about certificate of sponsorship, well first of all if you get allocated to a hospital they wont say that now I cant give u sponsorship because my limit has been reached, they can never do it because applicants have all rights to appeal and if they do something like that their reputation will get affected, so the only thing which they do is if they do not have enough sponsorships cert they wont allocate you. This happened with quite a lot of people when I applied, their application score was in 40 and 50’s but they were not allocated and were not even kept on the reserved list, but those who got good score like in 60 and 70 were allocated, the biggest example is me myself who was on visit visa, only my score of 70 saved me and gave me a place and then my hospital gave me sponsorship. Remember that and its very logical as well if somebody does not want to give you sponsorship why would they allocate you? They would simply exclude you ..does that make sense? But on the other hand if your application score is good like in 60s or 70s you will definitely get allocated and then you will be sponsored by your hospital and trust.

How many people do you think will apply for foundation? Lets say 10,000? Here I am talking about khi pak only, from these 10,000 how many do you think can go to uk? Can bear all the expenses? Can clear their exams on time? Can clear their plabs before job starts?? How many will get scores of 60s n 70s? I would say not more than 5000 because this happens and I have literally seen this happening with many people who were unable to clear plabs, unable to get gmc reg on time, unable to come to uk because financial or visa issues

So the only person who can make you and help you achieve ur destination is U YOURSELF, I am the kinda person who had literally no help during this application process not a single person helped me out, all I did was by myself by my own internet searches and this is one of the main reason of why I am helping everybody out because I want you all to understand this very important and confusing application process before the ELIGIBILITY PERIOD starts, coz once its started you guys will have no time to think about other issues coz it goes so quickly and I do not want anyone to ruin their 1 more year just by thinking that how would I get all the documents done or would I get visa or not…Just go for it..u have to have a will u have to have a confidence in urself , just be very very confident and firm and apply for it and leave the rest on ALLAH and I am very sure you will reach your destination !!

Hope that helps

Any further queries regarding this just write here or message me and I am more than happy to help !!

Hey Hina.

Is it better to give PLAB1 in UK(in November)or should I go for the one held here in September? If I go with the former I’ll have some extra time to prepare but then i’ll have to apply for business visa and if God forbid it doesn’t come through I’ll be stranded.Plus the recruitment process begins from 3rd October so I was thinking it would be better to get done with PLAB1 before that?

Also my house job is coming up and I have yet to start studying for PLAB. Im confused whether to go for house job (of a few months duration) and study along with it or drop it completely.I want to do house job so that I can have a clinical background to give good answers for those questions that they ask in the application.

I’ll appreciate your help.Thanks

a very informative and encouraging article indeed…..
i would like to ask you…..looking at the figures this year, 3 time more applications from outside the UK as compared to last year, mostly frm europe…..IMGs requiring tier-2 visa havent been placed on the primary nor on the reserve list….although many of them should find a place when the reserve list is over with….since you are in the system….is it a step towards saturation ?? u have said they need doctors….so is it just this year ? hopefully the days of saturation are far away !
thank u

I am graduating in jULY 2012.
i am also confused whether i should go to uk for november 2012 exam (as my family is there also) and get admission in a PLAB1 PREP COURSE before my november 2012 exam.
or i should start my housejob right after my MBBS, and give PLAB1 in Pakistan, and alongwith it complete my housejob and than apply for F2 POST after finishing my 1 year housejob here. (as everywhere its written that its hard to get into foundation programmes). so i am afraid what if i spent time there in PLABS and i could not get into foundation programme 2013, and have to come back to start my housejob here, than about 8 or 9 months of mine will be wasted in which i could have done house job and gave PLABs.
Although personally i wish to go to uk after my MBBS, and give PLAB1 AND PLAB2 there and in the meantime apply for F1 POST.
Thanks,i hope u understand my issue.
